Meditate – Just Do It

Easy Yoga Pose to Meditate

“Oh, I really want to meditate.”

“Meditation is great. I know I should be doing it.”

“I used to meditate, but I don’t know what happened.”

This must sound familiar. I hear this stuff ALL THE TIME. Especially after I wrote the Troubleshooting Guide. No more. If you have the time to read this blog, you had the time to meditate.

How do I meditate?

Thunderbolt Yoga Pose to Meditate

Sit comfortably. (This is key. If you’re not comfortable, all you’ll be thinking about it “I’m not comfortable.”)

Close your eyes. (Not a requirement, but limiting your senses limits the distractions.)

Clear the mind. (Ha! It sounds so easy, right.)

Obstacles (ie. Excuses)
  • Who
  • What
  • When
  • Where
  • Why
  • How

Did I miss anything?

  • You could be doing it right now
  • Find any room with a lock on the door (cars also work)
  • Learn on the job
  • No one’s good at it, that’s why we keep doing it
  • You remembered to eat today (right?) – if you can feed your body, you can feed your mind!
  • Peace, less stress, more brain power for things you actually want to think about.
First Meditation

Just sit still and breathe. When you think of something, stop thinking about. Taking a deeper breath and let it go. Do that for five minutes and you have accomplished a lot more than everyone who bookmarked this page under “to-do list.”

Do this every day for a week. If you miss a day start over.

 Meditation – Week 2

Alright! You meditated for a week! Give yourself a hug! What’s next?

Meditate More

Yes, you read that right. There are two ways to accomplish that: meditate twice a day or meditate for longer than five minutes.

Do this every day for a week. If you miss a day start over.

Meditation – Week 3

“I’m bored!”

Now, now, don’t be cranky (are you sure you’re really meditating?)!

It’s time to change it up. Add depth. Guess what? There’s an app for that!

Check out Insight Timer. I’ve been using this app for a while and I really find it supports me when my practice is off track.

You’re using an app this week, so do it twice a day! Every day. If you miss a day, start over.

Meditation – Week 4

You’re still with me? Remember when you didn’t have: time, space, knowledge, or interest? Now you’re on a roll. Now, this practice is yours. What do you want to come next?

(Not rhetorical, comment below to see your request become the topic of my NEXT blog post.)

If you fell off the wagon or got frustrated, move over here. Then, come back.
